Jón came west to the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota with his parents in 1883. He moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1902 and took land near Leslie. He moved to the village of Foam Lake in 1908. He later moved to the west coast.
