Hallfríður came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1903 and went to live with her mother, Ingibjörg Valdimarsdóttir, in Roseau County in Minnesota. She made her way to Manitoba where she married Stefán. He had come west to Winnipeg in 1905. They moved west to Tantallon, Saskatchewan in 1910, Hallfríður died.
