Björn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 with his parents, Bjorn Jónsson and Þorbjörg Björnsdóttir. Björn attended the seminary and became as pastor. He served the Icelandic communities in Minnesota from 1894 to 1914 and was the pastor at the First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg from 1914 to 1938.
