Pétur moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1906 and married there. Guðrún Margrét emigrated to Winnipeg in 1903 with her parents Jón Jónsson and Guðrún Sveinbjörnsdóttir. They settled in the Lakes Settlement in 1907.
