Margrét was the daughter of the couple Ásgrímur Guðmundsson and Guðný Runólfsdóttir who lived in Yellow Medicine County in Minnesota. Sveinn was a printer in Reykjavík and came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1903 and worked as a printer at the Lögberg newspaper in that city. He moved to Minneota, Minnesota and worked in printing on the Vínland and the Minneota Mascot papers. They returned to Winnipeg and printed Lögberg in 1909-1911 but from there went west to Wynyard, Saskatchewan and published the weekly Wynyard Advance for 12 years. He later worked in printing in Wisconsin, Minneapolis, and again in Winnipeg.
