Jóhannes Joensen was born in the Faroe Islands on March 12, 1863.
Spouse: Kristín Sölvadóttir b. in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1866, d. September 6, 1905. She was the daughter of Sölvi Helgason.
Children: 1. Guðbjörg Þóra Sigurlína 2. Edwin 3. They had another daughter who was adopted by the couple Jósef Helgason and Guðrún Árnadóttir. Kristín also had a son named Jón.
Jóhannes came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba from the Faroe Islands in 1890. He moved to the Big Point Settlement and took land there in 1897. Kristín came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1899. Her son Jón would have come west the same year. After Kristín died, their children were taken into foster care. Davíð Valdimarsson and his wife Guðbjörg Jónsdóttir took in Guðbjörg and Ólafur Hannesson and his wife Sigríður took in Edwin.
