Aleph Sigríður was the daughter of Stígur Þorvaldsson and Þórunnar Björnsdóttir who first lived in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Bjarni came west in 1887 with his father, Ólafur Jóhannsson, and his wife, Guðbjörg Jónsdóttir. They settled in the Sand Hills Settlement in N. Dakota and there Bjarni received education. He studied pharmacology. Bjarni and Aleph lived in Seattle. Aleph met Vigdís Finnbogadóttir once in Washington, who praised Aleph for her good Icelandic skills, and, when she celebrated her 100th birthday, the President called west to congratulate her!
