Indriði was sixteen years old when he came west in 1878 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Guðbjörg went there about 1880 but her parents, Jason Þórðarson and Anna Jóhannesdóttir emigrated to Canada in 1874 with four children. Indriði and Guðbjörg lived two years in the Fjalla Settlement in N. Dakota. They moved from there in 1889 to Alberta, Canada.
