Sigurbjörg Helgadóttir

Sigurbjörg Helgadóttir was born in Mountain, N. Dakota on November 13, 1897. She died on May 8, 1985.  She had the last name Stefansson in the west.

Unmarried and childless.

Sigurbjörg was the daughter of Helgi Stefánsson and Þuríður Jónsdóttir of S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She grew up in Mountain, N. Dakota and in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg and studied at Wesley College from 1916 to 1920. She completed her B.A., graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1920, and graduated as a teacher in 1925. She began teaching at a young age, taught at Carrick, Manitoba in the summer of 1919, was a middle school teacher in Lundar 1921-1923, and at Gimli from 1923 on.
