Helga Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir was born on August 1, 1874 in Árnessýsla. She died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) on July 18, 1953.
Spouse: October 13, 1899 Eiríkur Ólafsson b. January 15, 1876 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. He is registered as Erik Helgason in Canada.
Children: They raised three children: 1. Ágústa Hallgrímsdóttir (Helga’s sister) 2. Kristvin Helgason Sveinsson b. November 13, 1904 3. Helga Erika Dalmann.
Helga came west to Winnipeg in 1892, while her parents, Hallgrímur Guðmundsson and Þórey Ingimundardóttir, came to America in 1888. Eiríkur came west with his parents and younger brother in 1887 and they lived with Þorgrímur Jónsson who lived at Icelandic River (Íslendingafljót) in New Iceland. Ólafur’s wife, Engilráð, was Þorgrímur’s sister. They lived there three years and then moved to Selkirk. Helga came there with her parents in 1893. Eiríkur and Helga moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907 and took land in the Kandahar/Dafoe Settlement.
