They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1893 and first lived in the Argyle Settlement. Their son-in-law, Jakob Ágúst Vopni, settled there but in 1898, he moved to Swan River and Jón and Aðalbjörg moved there in 1900. They were there for a few years but when their granddaughter, Aðalbjörg, had finished primary school and wanted to look for work in Winnipeg, they decided to move with her there.
