Guðni Jóhannesson was born in Winnipeg on July 4, 1890. He died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan on November 10, 1968. He took the name Ginn Gillis in the west.
Spouse: July 14, 1920 Elísabet Geirmundsdóttir b. in Garðar, N. Dakota on April 9, 1898. She had the name Elizabeth Olgeirson in the west.
Children: Bertel Lincoln b. 1921 2. Guðrún Violet b. 1922 3. Lillian Doris b. 1924 4. Twins b. 1931, d. in birth 5. Robert Gene b. 1934.
Guðni was the son of Jóhannes Gíslason and Valgerður Stefánsdóttir who came west to Winnipeg in 1887. From there, they moved to Duluth in 1892 and then to Garðar, N. Dakota in 1902. Elísabet was the daughter of Geirmundur Bjarnason and Guðrún Ásmundsdóttir, but Geirmundur’s parents, Bjarni Olgeirsson and Guðrún Ásmundsdóttir, settled in Eyford, N. Dakota in 1879. Guðni and Elisabet moved to the Lakes Settlement in 1925.
