Hjörtur Lárusson was born in Ferjukot in Mýrasýsla on November 14, 1874. He died in Minneapolis on November 25, 1960.
Spouse: Hjörtur was married three times: first to a woman named Margrét, the second an American widow, and the third, Alice, was of Norwegian descent.
Children: He had 5 children with Margrét. Three daughters, Lára, Grace, and Aurora died young. Another daughter, Fjóla Marin Code, was a well-known singer and lived in San Francisco, and one son, Theodor, lived in Los Angeles.
Hjörtur was the son of Lárus Guðmundsson in Ferjukot who came west to Winnipeg in 1887 with Hjörtur’s wife and half-siblings. Hjörtur moved to Winnipeg from Ferjukot in 1889 and lived there until the turn of the century, then he moved south to Minneapolis, Minnesota and lived the rest of his life there.
