Sigurður Ólafsson was born in Rangárvallasýsla on August 14, 1883. He died on March 21, 1961 in Winnipeg. He was known as Rev. Sigurdur Olafsson in the west.
Spouse: 1) July 2, 1907 in Seattle, Halldóra Ingibjörg Ásgrímsdóttir b. in Skagafjarðarsýsla on January 16, 1885, d. in Blaine, Washington on December 11, 1918. 2) June 29, 1923 Ingibjörg Jóhanna Jónsdóttir b. in Gimli on June 17, 1887.
Children: With Halldóra; 1. Vigdís Evangeline b. February 28, 1912 2. Josephine Sigríður (Sigrid) b. March 5, 1914 3. Freyja Eleanor b. August 19, 1915.
Sigurður came west alone to Winnipeg in 1902 and worked as a fisherman on Lake Winnipeg the first winter. He went west to Seattle in the spring of 1903 and worked there until 1910. He then went to school in Portland, Oregon and graduated in theology in 1914. He was ordained a pastor on February 14, 1915, was served as the pastor in Blaine the same year. He served in Gimli from 1921-1929, in Arborg and Riverton 1929-1940 and finally in Selkirk 1940-1958. Halldóra came west to America around 1890 and lived in Duluth, Minnesota where her brothers, Ásgrímur and Jósafat lived. She moved west to the Pacific around the turn of the century and lived in Seattle where she met Sigurður. Ingibjörg grew up in New Iceland, graduated as a teacher in 1907 and taught in Arborg and in Gimli.
