Jóhann Jónsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on October 23, 1873. He died in Vancouver on December 20, 1963.

Jóhann is said to be the son of Jón Kristjánsson and his wife Guðrún Rósa Skúladóttir. Ingibjörg was the daughter of Anna Jósefsdóttir and Jón Jónsson of Auðkúlu. They came west in the last decade of the 19th century and settled in Duluth, Minnesota. They lived there until 1905 but, in the 1906 census, are registered settlers in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan, near Mozart. Jóhann moved west to the Pacific Ocean, probably a widower and lived in Vancouver.
