Guðbrandur was the son of Einar Einarsson and Soffía Guðbrandsdóttir of Dalasýsla, while María was the daughter of Árni Sigvaldason and Guðrún Aradóttir, who were early settlers in the Lincoln County Settlement in Minnesota in 1878. Guðbrandur was a farmer in the Suður – Cypress Settlement from 1917 – 1934 but moved from there to Argyle. His mother, Soffía, lived with the couple in her later years.
