Kristinn Normann Jónsson was born in Brandon, Manitoba.

Kristinn was the son of Jón Normann Jónsson and Guðrún Halldórsdóttir from Ísafjörður.
Guðrún lost her first husband and remarried. Her second husband was Magnús Davíðsson and Kristinn grew up in their home. He moved with them to the Pine Valley Settlement in 1900 and worked the farm with his stepfather. When Magnús died in 1919, Kristinn took over the farm. Sigríður moved to the settlement with her parents, Sigurður Magnússon and Una Jónsdóttir, in 1905. They lived the longest in the village of Piney.
