Einar came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents and siblings in 1887. He moved with them to Langenburg, Saskatchewan and from there to the Þingvalla Settlement. He lived with his parent in Russell, Manitoba but moved with his mother and brothers to the town of Spy Hill, Saskatchewan in 1903. Guðmundína was the daughter of Guðmundur and Guðrún Benson who settled in the Þingvalla Settlement after the turn of the century. A Guðný Guðmundsdóttir came west to Winnipeg in 1902, lived there for some time, then moved to Spy Hill and worked for Einar as a housekeeper. Guðmundína passed away at a young age and Guðný looked after Einar’s children as a mother would.
