Skapti Valdimar Kristjánsson Eyford was born in Roseau, Minnesota on August 5, 1896.

Skapti came west with his parents, Kristján Sigurðsson Eyford and Guðríður Halldóra Jónsdóttir from Roseau in the Pine Valley Settlement in 1900. He lived with them there until his mother died in 1906 and then moved to the home of his sister, Þóra Margrét, and her husband, Einar Einarsson, a farmer in the community. Skapti later bought land in the community and lived there until 1930 when he moved to the village of Piney.
