Leópold Jóhannesson was born in Eyjafjarðarsýsla on November 15, 1876 . He died in Saskatchewan on October 27, 1936. He is registered as Leo Halldorson in the west.

Leópold was the son of Jóhannes Halldórsson and Anna Hólmfríður Sigurðardóttir of Eyjafjarðarsýsla; they came west in 1878. He grew up in Hallson, N. Dakota and moved with his father to Roseau, Minnesota in 1895 and from there to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907. There he took land in Wynyard and lived there.
