Páll was the son of Gísli Jónsson and Karólína Jónsdóttir who came west in 1873 and settled in Wisconsin. They were early pioneers in Rev. Páll Þorláksson’s settlement in Shawano County in 1876, but moved to N. Dakota in 1880. Their journey led them to Winnipeg where Páll lived the rest of his life. In 1916, they lived at 854 Banning St. in Winnipeg and Karólína, Páll’s mother lived with them. Engilráð’s parents, Jón Markússon and Margrét Jóhannsdóttir, also lived there.
