Þuríður Sigurbjörnsdóttir was born in Dalasýsla on May 29, 1877. She died on April 22, 1961 in Lundar.

Þuríður came west to Winnipeg in 1883 with her parents, Sigurbjörn Guðmundsson and Guðrún Jóhannesdóttir. Her mother died shortly after arriving in the city and Gróa Magnúsdóttir, Sigurbjörn’s second wife, took over as her mother. Stefán came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1903 and he lived there until 1913. They moved to the Lundar Settlement and took land near Otto. Moving with them was Þóra Jónsdóttir, b. November 30, 1846, who had come west in 1892. She lived with them all the time.
