Oddur came west in 1875 and stayed in various places in the United States for many years. He participated in the gold exploration of the Klondike in 1898 and was successful. He owned and operated a hotel in Dawson, Yukon Territory in Canada which burned to the ground in a great fire at the time. He came to Winnipeg in 1909 and then bought a strip of land in the Hnausa Settlement.
