Frank was the son of Árni Sigvaldason and Guðrún Aradóttir, early Icelandic pioneers in Minnesota. He grew up in the Lincoln County Settlement and as a teenager, he did traditional chores in the countryside. He then bought land in Argyle, Manitoba, but lived there for a short time, selling his land to his brother Jon and moving to Longmont, Colorado, USA. He ran a service station and an extensive wholesale oil business there for years. He later moved to Arizona.
