Ásgeir came west across the ocean in 1885 and moved to Winnipeg. From there, he went south to N. Dakota and there Ásgeir settled in Mountain. He worked hard in the fast-growing community and a township in Cavalier County is named after him; it is called Byron Township. Guðrún was the daughter of Sigurð Kráksson and Kristín Þorsteinsdóttir who came west from Eyjafjörður in 1878.
