Elísabet came west in 1891 with her parents, Jóhannes Halldórsson and Guðrún Jónsdóttir, who settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Ásgeir came west in 1883 with his parents, Jónas Sturlaugsson and Halldóra Halldórsdóttir. They also settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Ásbjörn grew up there and lived there the rest of his life. After his death, Elísabet continued farming with the faithful help of her son Óskar.
