Guðný Þorfinnsdóttir was born on April 11, 1874 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. She died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan on February 14, 1946. She was known as Gertie Thorfinnsdottir in the west.
Spouse: Nýmundur Sakarías Björnsson b. in Strandasýsla on October 15, 1870, d. in Saskatchewan on May 4, 1947. He took the last name Josefsson in the west.

Guðný came west in 1882 with her parents, Þorfinnur Jóhannesson and Elísabet Pétursdóttir, who took land near Mountain, N. Dakota. Nýmundur arrived there in 1883 with his parents, Bjarni Jósefsson and Þóra Guðmundsdóttir from Strandasýsla. Guðný and Nýmundur started farming in Pembina County, but in 1905, they moved north to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) and settled in the vicinity of Wynyard.
