Friðrik Þorfinnsson was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla on January 12, 1881. He died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan on March 30, 1947. He took the name Fred or Frederick Thorfinson in the west.
Spouse: 1907 Henrietta Sigurjónsdóttir b. 1884 in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota, d. November 5, 1972. She was known as Hattie in the west.
Children: 1. Sigurjón Arthur d. June 29, 1977 2. Þorfinnur Walter 3. Valgerður Elizabet Pearl.
Friðrik came west in 1882, one year old, to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Þorfinnur Jóhannesson and Elísabet Pétursdóttir, and siblings. The family settled in Mountain, N. Dakota. Henrietta was the daughter of Sigurjón Sveinsson and Valgerður Sylvía Þorláksdóttir, pioneers in N. Dakota. In 1905, Friðrik took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan around the same time as his father-in-law, Sigurjón Sveinsson. Friðrik and Henrietta moved there a year later.
