Valgerður Pétursdóttir was born in Skagafjarðarsýsla in 1857. She died in 1931 in Saskatchewan.

Árni brought the family west in 1883 and settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Traveling with the family was Valgerður’s mother, Margrét Sveinbjarnardóttir. They moved north to the Brown Settlement in 1899 where Árni died, the first Icelander to be buried in the community’s Icelandic church cemetery.  Valgerður and her son Árni moved to Saskatchewan in 1923. Her daughters, Guðrún Sigurlína and Rannveig Petrína, married Canadian men and they had settled in Archerville. The mother moved there.
