Jón moved with his parents, Brynjólfur Jónsson and Guðrún Jónsdóttir, and brothers from Rosseau to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1884 and from there in 1904 to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He took land in Wynyard and lived there a number of years before moving west to White Rock, British Columbia.
