Guðrún was the daughter of Jón Níelsson who came west with her and her family. They moved west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and on to New Iceland a year later. They moved to N. Dakota in 1881. They then moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1906 and took land in the Wynyard community. Jón’s sons took the last name Víum or Weum in the west.
