They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887. They soon moved to New Iceland where they lived for two years. They moved back to Winnipeg, but in 1891 they moved to the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan where they took their land and bought two other lots. Sveinbjörn bought a store in Churchbridge in 1904 and ran it in addition to farming until 1908 when he stopped farming and concentrated on running the store.
