Guðrún Rósa Jóhannesdóttir was born in 1861 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla.
Spouse: 1887 Jón Sigfússon b. in Eyjafjarðarsýsla in 1857, d. 1937 in the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He took the last name Thorlacius in the west.
Children: 1. Bjarni J. b. 1891 2. Sigfús Daníel b. 1898.
Guðrún’s parents, Jóhannes Bjarnason and Lilja Guðrún Daníelsdóttir, came west in 1883 with Guðrún’s siblings. She and Jón came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1889 and moved on to Churchbridge in the Þingvalla settlement in Saskatchewan where he worked in a retail store. They moved from there two years later and lived in Yorkton and then in White Sands at the turn of the century. They moved to the Lakes settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1903 and took land. In 1904 a post office was opened on Jón’s land which was called Kristnes, and Jón served as the Post Master for many years. The community that grew up there was called Kristnes.
