Ingibjörg came west with her parents, Stefán Hafliðason and Lilja Jónsdóttir, in 1888 to New Iceland in Manitoba. They moved from there to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan around 1906 and settled near Wynyard. Þorlákur’s parents, Friðbjörn Björnsson and Anna S. Árnadóttir, came west to Ontario, Canada in 1873. They were in Parry Sound the first years, but then moved to New Iceland in 1875. There Þorlákur was born. They made their way next to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1881. Þorlákur graduated from agricultural school in Fargo in 1901. He moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1905 and first took land near Leslie. He farmed until 1929 but then became a merchant after that. He moved to Wynyard in 1946.
