They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1894 and settled in the Grunnavatn Settlement. They moved from there in 1908 and bought Stefán Ólafsson’s land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. They lived in the Foam Lake community. Coming west with them were Jórunn’s mother, Kristín Björnsdóttir, and Jórunn’s sister Ingibjörg, 16 years old.
