Ásrún came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her father, Jón Jónsson from Mýri in Bárðardalur, in 1903 and moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1906. Jón, the son of Jón Jónsson from Munkaþverá and Guðný Eiríksdóttir, lived in his father’s house until 1904, but he then moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan as did his father. He opened a store in Wynyard and ran it for a number of years. They moved to Vancouver in 1911 and from there south to Blaine, Washington a year later.
