Ólafur Hallgrímsson was born in Ljósavatnshreppur in S. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1862. He died on January 2, 1942 in Saskatchewan. He took the name Ólafur Hall in the west.
Spouse: Kristrún Jóhannesdóttir b. 1858 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla, d. December 31, 1948.
Ólafur moved with his mother, Sigríður Jónasdóttir, west in 1889 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and from there on to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. They moved to Winnipegosis, Manitoba in 1900 and then to Wynyard in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. Ólafur was a good singer and often led choir work in the Lakes Settlement, especially during the preparation of Icelanders’ Day (Íslendingadagurinn) in Wynyard. When they stopped farming in 1932 and moved to Wynyard, they took over the library of the Icelandic Reading Society.
