Guðrún came west in 1886 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and in May 1887, she moved west to the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan and took land. She lived there until 1894, but then she moved to the community of Theodore in the southeast of the settlement. She was there for two years, but then moved north to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) and settled in Foam Lake.
