Arinbjörn was the son of Björn Sigvaldason. He came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his brother Jóhann and sisters Þórunn and Ingibjörg. He took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) near Kandahar, Saskatchewan in 1904, the same year as his brothers Jóhann and Björn. Arinbjörn took an active part in the social life of the settlement, working both on his land and in the struggle for farmers in the settlement.
