Finnbogi came to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887 with his parents and siblings. He lived with them in Winnipeg and Selkirk, and moved west with them to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907. There Finnbogi bought half of his father’s land in the Kandahar/Dafoe area but also ran a hardware store in Kandahar and also, in partnership with Björn Björnsson, a similar store in Dafoe.
