Katrín Kristjana Schou was born on September 13, 1831 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died on February 17, 1895 in Manitoba.

She was the daughter of Hermann Sivert Christian Schou, a store manager in Siglufjörður. His wife was Sigríður Jónsdóttir. Sigurður was the son of Grímur the bookbinder Laxdal in Akureyri and Hlaðgerðar Þórðardóttir, his wife. They came west with their son to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1888. A year later, they moved to the Argyle Settlement. Sigurður moved back to Iceland the same year as Katrín died and worked in a shop in Akureyri with his brother Eggert Laxdal. He came back west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1897 and lived with his son. He moved with him and his daughter-in-law to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1904 and settled in Foam Lake where he died six years later.
