Jóhannes came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and went on to New Iceland. He moved south from there to the Akra Settement in N. Dakota. His brother Ólafur, who was married to Sigríður’s sister Ragnheiður Ósk, moved west to the settlement in 1887 and the brothers had a collective farm after that. They moved together to the Brown Settlement in Manitoba in 1899.
