Borghildur Albertsdóttir was born on December 4, 1863 in Dalasýsla.

She came west to the United States in 1874 with her parents, Albert Gíslason and Guðríður Guðmundsdóttir. They settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they lived for a long time and both Albert and Guðríður carried their bones there. He died in 1906 and she in 1921. It must therefore be considered probable that Borghildur also lived there for her lifetime.
