Kristín was the daughter of Freysteinn Jónsson and Kristín Eyjólfsdóttir in Gullbringusýsla and came west with them in 1886. They settled in the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan. Egill came west in 1876 to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his parents, Halldór Friðriksson and Sigurrós Halldórsdóttir. They settled in New Iceland for the first years, but then moved south to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1880. Egill grew up there, took land in Sherwood, N. Dakota, and lived there after that.
