Elínborg came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1888. Her son Árni, who had come west the year before, was waiting for her there. Her son Einar then came west in 1889. They moved to Pilot Mound southwest of Winnipeg and lived there until 1899. Then Elínborg went to Winnipeg with her daughter-in-law, Kristín Magnúsdóttir and her children. Elínborg died there shortly after arriving in the city.
