Salóme Helga Bjarnadóttir was born in Mýrasýsla in 1876. She died in Winnipeg on February 2, 1955.

Salóme came west in 1901 with her parents, Bjarni Sigurðsson and Margrét Ólafsdóttir, and siblings. They settled in the Ísafold Settlement. Friðjón came west to Winnipeg in 1893, together with his brother Guðmundur and sister Ingveldur. He settled in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in the first decade of the 20th century and took land near Mozart. He died there after a long life, leaving six children and a wife. Salóme then moved to Winnipeg and lived there.
