Vigfús settled in Vancouver and there he met Guðbjörg after 1906. She was a recent widow, her husband Jón Jónsson from Miðdalir died in an accident in Winnipeg on April 30, 1904. Gubjörg moved west to the ocean, was with relatives in Blaine, Washington, but then went to Vancouver in 1906. There they married and on February 15, 1908, they moved to Bellingham.
