Helga Bjarnadóttir was born in Dalasýsla on June 24, 1867. She died in Keewatin, Ontario on November 4, 1920.

Helga was the half-sister of the brothers Aðalbjartur and Torfi who both came west across the ocean early in the Emigration Period, Torfi actually returned after a short stay in Nebraska and founded an agricultural school in Ólafsdalur. Helga came west to Canada at the turn of the century, probably with her children Ágústa and Bjarni. Bjarni returned to Iceland but Jónas and Þórunn did not go west. Little is known about Helga’s fate in the West other than that she died in Ontario.
