Jón Eggertsson was born in Mýrasýsla on August 20, 1865. He died on February 12, 1932 in Manitoba.
Spouse: Guðrún Þorbergsdóttir (Fjeldsted) b. 1875 in Hnappadalssýsla, d. August 10, 1942.

Jón came west with his parents to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1887. Guðrún arrived there with her parents the same year. Jón lived with his parents in New Iceland, in Winnipeg for six years, and lastly in the Narrows. There his father (Eggert Jónsson) died in 1897 and Jón began to look for better land. In 1899 he moved to the Swan River Valley Settlement (Árdalsbyggð). He settled there in 1900 and lived there until 1906, but then moved to Winnipeg. He lived there for twelve years, but then moved back to his land in Álftárdalsbyggð and lived there after that.
