María Magdalena Steindórsdóttir was born on October 17, 1869 in Dalasýsla.
María was the daughter of Kristín Bjarnadóttir and Steindór Sigurðsson at Hrappstaðir. She came west in 1883 with her mother. They settled in Gimli in New Iceland.
